The Rovaniemi-based YouTube channel Santatelevision, operated by Joulupukki TV, doubled its viewership during the Christmas season of 2024 and announced its departure from X.
With Christmas tourism in Lapland shining—or at least standing out—Joulupukki TV’s YouTube channel Santatelevision achieved new records. The channel, available at www.youtube.com/santatelevision, doubled its viewership during the 2024 Christmas season compared to the previous year. Santatelevision’s videos were viewed an impressive 15 million times during the season.
The most significant growth was seen in YouTube Shorts (vertical videos), where views increased more than tenfold. Traditional horizontal videos also saw over a 30% increase in viewership.
“Viewers were especially interested in Santa’s video greetings and sleigh rides,” says Tommi Lappalainen, CEO of Joulupukki TV. Santatelevision’s videos are produced locally in the Santa Claus Village Arctic Circle area, in Joulupukki TV’s own studio in Rovaniemi, and in the rural surroundings of Pello, a neighboring municipality of Rovaniemi.
Indian Viewers Take the Lead, French Viewers Come Second
The channel’s content is available in a dozen different languages, and in 2024, Indian viewers surprised everyone: their viewership grew by over 400%, making India the channel’s largest audience. The second-largest viewership came from France, where views rose by an impressive 30%.
Santatelevision Leaves X
Joulupukki TV’s Internet channel Santatelevision has decided to cease its operations on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“X has become mainly a hub for hate and chaos, which doesn’t align with the Christmas spirit of Lapland,” remarks CEO Tommi Lappalainen.
Anniversary Year 2025: Santatelevision Turns 25
Santatelevision was founded on the Internet back in 2000 at www.santatelevision.com, with its YouTube journey starting in 2010. Thus, in 2025, Santatelevision celebrates its 25th anniversary, while the YouTube channel marks its 15th year.
“To celebrate this milestone, we’ve prepared a diverse range of new content, which we’ll be announcing soon,” promises CEO Lappalainen.
